Preliminary subject equivalence
As a student of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), you will have a lot of opportunities to gain international experience. To support this, we offer our extensive international partnerships and programs, through which you may spend a semester or even an entire academic year abroad.
Today, gaining international experience—whether through partial studies or professional internships—plays a crucial role. The development of language skills, broad cultural awareness, intercultural experience, and flexibility significantly enhances future employment prospects and supports successful entry into the labor market. Our university is proud of its numerous international partner institutions; ELTE sends the highest number of scholarship recipients abroad, and we offer the widest range of programs for students interested in studying or undertaking professional practice abroad.
On ELTE’s central website, you can choose from a wide range of opportunities.
Important Information
- Stipendium Hungaricum students on level BSc and MSc are not eligible for Erasmus scholarship.
- If you are fee paying student, you have to pay the tuition fee also in the Erasmus semester for the Faculty of Informatics.
- In case of student exchange at a partner university you have to fulfill at least 20 credits at the partner university – if you cannot, the scholarship has to be paid back.
- If your Aggregated corrected credit index is under 2,00, you are not eligible for Erasmus, if it is between 2,00-2,5 it is also very little chance to get the scholarship.
- Residence permit in the host country is your responsibility, also the health insurance + liability insurance for the whole exchange period.
- For applications, a motivation letter and a study plan must be submitted (the format is not specified). Students are not yet required to list exact courses; however, it must be clear that they have researched the selected host university and that a sufficient number of courses (at least 20 credits) are offered in the appropriate language. This study plan is not the same as the Learning Agreement, which must only be completed after a successful application. The Learning Agreement requires the exact specification of the courses to be taken at the host institution and how they will be accepted in the current ELTE curriculum.
- All courses completed abroad may be recognized as part of the degree program. Courses that have a direct equivalent at the home institution will be recognized with the domestic credit value of that course. In cases where course content corresponds, approval is typically granted. For specific course equivalency, students must consult the main course lecturer and request written approval, attaching the course description of the foreign course. For planning and credit recognition, please review the two menu items above.
- Please note that one of the fundamental conditions of the Erasmus scholarship is that the student must maintain an active student status at the home institution during the scholarship period (this does not apply to students participating in an internship after graduation).
Please register for an active status in Neptun as usual. If you extend your Erasmus scholarship to the following semester, that semester must also be activated. - Attention! Due to the specific characteristics of the German education system, semester periods vary by federal state and may start and end later than Hungarian semesters. This may involve several challenges:
• There will be tight deadlines for submitting the application and the Transcript of Records.
• Both the application submission and the scholarship request must be adjusted in time to the German academic system.
Please take these factors into account when choosing the location of your studies abroad. - Information for Phd students
Also long term application is possible, but always with the acceptance of your supervisor. First step regarding PhD mobility is to find a supervisor at the host university/company. PhD exchange happens usually in the form of traineeship application.
