Development of a method for the deployment of Deep Learning algorithms with applications in Autonomous Systems and Industry 4.0

Machine Learning techniques using neural networks with several hidden layers are summarized under the expression of deep learning, often connected to tasks in speech recognition and computer vision. While a major research approach targets the improvement and optimization of learning algorithms and topology of deep neural networks (DNN), little research has been done on a methodical approach to the deployment of deep learning techniques to problems in application domains such as autonomous systems and automization of industrial production processes (industry 4.0). The goal of this research will be to devise and formally describe a method to systematically identify deployment potentials of DNN: problem formulation and subsequent feature extraction, pattern recognition, interpretation of the output, and quantification of the impact on the solution to the problem.

Development of a Method and Enterprise Architecture for the Engineering of Digital Innovation

Digital innovation describes the use of digital technologies during the process of innovation or as the result of innovation. Digital innovation is increasingly becoming a dominant research focus in the fields of information systems. Research for this thesis topic should continuously develop a method to the systematic engineering of digital innovation focussing on software-intensive (digital) systems, pontentially in close collaboration of innovative partner companies. The research could follow the Design Science Research paradigm in conjunction with Method Engineering.
