Network Resource Sharing and Quality of Service in Next Generation Networks (ELTE-Ericsson Research)

One of the most researched areas in communication networks is the provision of Quality of Service (QoS) guarantees. However, network QoS assurance and proper resource management are still not fully solved problems. In this joint research project with Ericsson, we are developing new solutions for future networks to control the proportion of shared network resources that each application/user can access. Our solution is to mark packets at the edge of the network and then schedule and drop packets at the centre of the network based on these markings.

Network programming models and methods (ELTE-Ericsson Research)

The network is modelled as a big switch whose operation can be described in P4. Assuming that there are different devices in the network that can be programmed in P4, the network behaviour is used to generate the packet processing code for the individual devices running in the network. The work includes disaggregation of the P4 program, disaggregation of the appropriate control plane, optimal placement of the parts on different nodes considering load, latency and other requirements.

DESIRE6G: Developing a new mobile architecture for 6G (Horizon Europe DESIRE6G)

The ELTE team's task in this project is to design the foundations of a deeply programmable cloud-native network infrastructure and to build a proof-of-concept implementation for demonstration purposes. A number of subtasks can be identified for students to work on as a thesis, dissertation or lab. Access to specific devices will also be provided: Intel Tofino, Intel Stratix10 FPGA, nVidia BlueField-2, etc.

NATWORK: New security and reliability mechanisms for 6G networks

The ELTE team’s task is to support hardware acceleration and energy efficient implementation of various AI/ML and network security solutions, and the development of new security-by-design mechanisms for distributed comutations. The project started in January 2024 and several subtasks have been identified for students to work on.
