Master Programmes

The Faculty of Informatics of Eötvös Loránd University offers a wide range of master programmes to international students who intend to obtain a master's degree at ELTE and who want to complete the entire program in English at ELTE in Budapest, Hungary. We recommend our courses especially to those who wish to enhance their knowledge in the field of informatics sciences or who intend to specialise within a narrower field of informatics. The master programmes are accredited by the Hungarian Accreditation Committee. Diplomas issued at ELTE are acknowledged worldwide.

Foundation Year in the field of informatics - conditions, advantages 
(Computer Science MSc, Computer Science for Autonomous Systems MSc, Data Science MSc)

Based on the decision of Admissions Committee, applicants shall be directed to a foundation year in the following three cases:

  • During Bachelor studies student has not obtained sufficient number of credits.
    • Computer Science / Data Science MSc:
      Holding a BSc degree in Computer Science or obtaining altogether at least 60 ECTS credits in informatics and mathematical subjects related to computer science during a completed Bachelor's programme.
    • Computer Science MSc for Autonomous Systems:
      Holding a BSc degree in Computer Science or holding another BSc degree and obtaining altogether at least 80 ECTS credits in informatics, computer science and mathematics.
  • Student"s level of English proficiency is measured under B2 by the Admissions Committee during the interview (regardless the English language exam certificate of the student).
  • Student's Bachelor results are acceptable enough, but the Admissions Committee have detected that in order to start academic studies, student needs to obtain more skills and experinces in the chosen training to start Master studies without difficulties.

Advantages of Foundation Year:

  • Getting admission to ELTE Faculty of Informatics 
  • Gaining solid programming background required to study Master subjects efficiently, without struggling
  • Obtaining sufficient number of credits in informatics required to start a Master course
  • In case of Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme, the scholarship holder is required to earn at least 36 credits in each academic year (minimum credit requirement).
    According to our expectations, students of the Foundation Year programme will fulfil the minimum credit requirement easily by studying preparatory subjects, and they gain sufficient knowledge and experience in order to fulfil the minimum credit requirement in their second academic year when they will take Master courses according the curriculum of their chosen study programme. The scholarship covers full studies (2 semesters of the Foundation Year Programme + 4 semesters of Master studies).
  • In case of a fee-paying student, student also can choose to study in the Foundation Year programme (3200 EUR/semester) for one or two semesters, and to take personalized subjects according to previous studies and selected Master programme at ELTE Faculty of Informatics, in order to be prepared for Master studies.
