QS Europe: ELTE is again the best hungarian university this year
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) first published its European university rankings in autumn 2023, and now the second edition of the rankings has been published as QS Europe 2025. A total of 685 institutions in 42 locations across the continent were surveyed. Eötvös Loránd University was ranked 190th in the overall ranking, 18 places higher than last year, making it the best higher education institution in Hungary again this year. A total of 15 universities from Hungary were included in the ranking, ELTE is followed by the University of Debrecen (222nd), the University of Szeged (228th), the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (247th) and the University of Pécs (314th).
The QS European ranking is based on a similar methodology to the organisation's other lists, with the difference that the institutions are assessed with greater emphasis on internationalisation and mobility as important European values. This is reflected in a newly introduced measure called International Student Diversity.
QS Europe uses 12 indicators, of which ELTE is the best in Hungary in the areas of academic reputation, citation by publications, job opportunities, outgoing student mobility and sustainability.
In terms of job opportunities, ELTE is in the top 100 in Europe, ranked 68th.
